Google Social Search Adds Your Friends to Your Search Results

Posted by gpy6529 On April - 16 - 2010

Google has added a new social-search tool to its experimental search options.

Google Social Search, which went live Monday afternoon, finds results from your social network, pulls a list of your contacts from sites like Twitter, FriendFeed, Picasa, Blogger, Google Reader and other social networks, as well as your Gmail contacts, to find results for search terms from people you know.

Facebook’s friend data isn’t shared publicly, so results from your Facebook friends won’t show up unless you’re also friends on other networks.

To enable the new experiment, head over to the Google Experimental Search page and add the new Social Search option. As with other experiments, you’ll need to be logged in to Google to see the social results.

Once the experiment is enabled, you’ll be able to search for something like “potato chips” with enhanced results. Along with the regular Google results showing top hits for the entire web, you’ll see a link to a write-up about potato chips from your friend’s food blog, as well. You might also see a friend’s tweet about potato chips, or a link to a Yelp review written by somebody you know where they talked about how good the potato chips are at the Lulu Petite sandwich shop.

While Google’s intro video (embedded below) shows search results from the social tool inline with other results (under the heading “Results from people in your social circle…”) that didn’t happen in our testing. To see the personalized results from our social graph we had to click the “Options” button and then filter the results by “social.”

As for the results, well, Social Search leaves a little to be desired, but the results depend heavily on how large your social circle is and how closely your interests match your friends. For example, a search for “Webmonkey” turned up a number of hits, since the past and present Webmonkey staff members are part of our social graph. However, two of us have been passing around a link to a (NSFW) McSweeney’s article about decorative gourds Tuesday morning, but a social search for “decorative gourds” returned nothing from our social graph. We seem to be alone on that one.

It’s important to note that Google Social Search is not a real-time search engine. The quality of results may suffer a little if you’re searching for things that your friends have only started posting about very recently.

The quality of results will also depend on how many services you’ve added to your Google Profile — the more social sites Google knows you hang out on, the more friends it has to draw on, and thus the more results you’ll see.

The exclusion of Facebook may seem like an egregious oversight, but it comes amidst a very public battle between Google and Facebook to become your hub on the social web. The recent push behind Google Profiles was the search company’s first major attempt to create a central place for you to store information about yourself and link to your profiles on other social networks. But Facebook is still the more popular place to build a profile, and Facebook struck a deal with Microsoft last week to let the Bing search engine index user activity on the site — a deal Google was left out of.

Compared to using the search features on social sites themselves, like Twitter and FriendFeed, Google’s Social Search comes in a distant second. But it does offer the advantage of finding everything in one place. It also acts as a very welcome filter. Try searching for “Where the Wild Things Are” on Twitter, and you’ll see thousands of tweets from people commenting about the movie or the book. Run the same search in Google Social Search, and you’ll just see what your friends — and the people they chat with publicly — are saying.

All the information that appears as part of Google Social Search is already available publicly on the web — with a bit of Google hacking you could find it yourself. But what’s social about that?

To enable Social Search, make sure you’re logged in to your Google account and head over to the Experimental Search page.

she started her myspace web site when she was 14.

Now at 17, Ashley Qualls is the CEO of a million-dollar internet business.

Watch the video below and read the story.

Her parents were divorced and she lived in a a one-bedroom apartment with her mother and sister.

Fortunately she was a straight A student, computer savvy and loved designing graphics.

She gives away Myspace background designs through her web site whateverlife.com for free.

Her target market is young girls and she understands what they love because she is one.

So how did she making money on the Internet?

She makes money in her home based business with ads.

Actually she’s made more than a million dollars on ad revenue.

Imagine about a million teenagers visit her site every day. More viewers than many teenage magazines.

With a such big audience, the site attracts advertisers. Ashley’s first check was for $2,700. The next was for $5,000, the third for $10,000.

The checks kept coming.

Then she bought a brand new four-bedroom house to live in with her mother and sister.

Next Ashley hired her mother, Linda LaBrecque, to help manage the company. She also hired 3 close friends who help her out with business ideas and design a minimum of 25 graphic designs a week.

Unbelievably she now gets help from a business consultant and gets invitation for paid ads.

She only pays herself a salary of $3000 a month and does not make any stupid purchases.

Where is her internet business going, she is designing graphics for cell phones and web site templates for myspace users. She wants her business to keep growing.

Recently she’s been offered $1.5 million dollars to buy her home based business.

What did she say?

7 steps to SEO wordpress effectively

Posted by gpy6529 On October - 8 - 2008

Here are a few things you can do to promote your blog (as far as i know ). You are welcome to post your comments or ideas that’s work.

1) Turn on your site feeds

Turn on your site feeds – this is very important. This sounds like a little thing but it’s one of those little things that make a big difference. You want people to be able to read your post on the fly.

Add your blog to EVERY blog listing you can find. Google it. Here are a few blog search engines you can get started with:
Weblogs.com
Blo.gs
Technorati
Feed Burner
Syndic8
NewsGator
My Yahoo!
PubSub.com
Blogdigger
BlogRolling
BlogStreet
Moreover
Weblogalot
Icerocket
News Is Free
Topic Exchange
Google Blog Search
Tailrank
Bloglines

These sites feed to hundreds of other sites and thousands of people come looking at places like this everyday. Also it creates a link to your site. Pingomatic.com is a great multiple blog pinging service, it make you blogging life easier.

2) Link to other blog

Link to other blog sites (as many as possible).
here are what happens when you link to a blog site :
The link comes up in their “referral logs” and they will link back. Make sure to keep the linking site to similar or related themes.

3) Install Blogroll

Install blogroll This is similar to linking.
Blog posts eventually fall of the front page and get archived. blogrolls are more of a blog favorites list and keep the blogs visitors eyesight constantly. If you don’t have blogroll for your blog go here it’s free:

4) Submit your blog to the search engines

Submit your blog to the search engines! Many of the search engines will only take top level domain names so try and keep your blog at the root level.

5) Syndicate or be Syndicated

Make sure to syndicate and or be syndicated to as many blog sites that are in your related theme. DO NOT go outside of your theme if possible. You can submit articles or “press releases” for free here and include your link and of course all SEs will pick it up and show the link.

6) Blog submitting Crucial

Something very important to remember when submitting your blog to search engines and other blog sites and this is crucial:

1. PITCH the POST NOT THE BLOG SITE! No-one is looking for a new blog to read. They may, however, be interested in a specific new story you’ve found, or a new idea you have. Therefore, pitch the blog post (“How to SEO wordpress”) not the blog (“Blog SEO”).

2. Good grammar, spelling, punctuation, and other details boost your credibility.

3. Keep your post SHORT. It’s not a sales letter. You’re trying to get someone to read a thought provoking headline. (that of course has links to your main site for the solution to their search or problem) Let your site do the selling. Lead them there with your blog post.

4. Try and submit to high traffic blog.

7) Make sure your blog “PING”

Make sure you set your blog to “ping” the weblogs.com and others like them. “Ping” is the way that blogs automatically notify other blogs of a posting update. This means that when you have ping turned on it automatically updates other sites of your most recent post and they will include your post in their “recently updated” list and other assorted things.

What does CRM stand for ?

Posted by gpy6529 On September - 30 - 2008

Customer relationship management (CRM) is a term applied to processes implemented by a company to handle its contact with its customers. CRM software is used to support these processes, storing information on current and prospective customers. It is a journey of strategic, process, organizational and technical change whereby a company seeks to better manage its own enterprise around customer behaviors. It entails acquiring and deploying knowledge about one’s customers and using this information across the various touch points to balance revenue and profits with maximum customer satisfaction.

The true value of CRM is to transform strategy, operational processes and business functions in order to retain customers and increase customer loyalty and profitability.

From the outside, customers interacting with a company perceive the business as a single entity, despite often interacting with a variety of employees in different roles and departments. CRM is a combination of policies, processes, and strategies implemented by a company that unify its customer interaction and provides a mechanism for tracking customer information.

CRM includes many aspects which relate directly to one another:

  • Front office operations — Direct interaction with customers.
  • Back office operations — Operations that ultimately affect the activities of the front office
  • Business relationships — Interaction with other companies and partners, such as suppliers/vendors and retail outlets/distributors, industry networks. This external network supports front and back office activities.
  • Analysis — Key CRM data can be analyzed in order to plan target-marketing campaigns, conceive business strategies, and judge the success of CRM activities
  • Building Relationship with the Customers.

CRM software helps organizations implement effective Customer Relationship Management (CRM).

CRM is not a software application itself, but is instead a strategy for doing business.
